Superintendent Anthony Starks
Anthony Starks was born on July 22. His academic and professional background includes 13 plus years in Computer Operations. He began his higher education at Grambling State University, Grambling, LA. He completed his Bachelors of Science Degree from Eastern Michigan University in April 1990. Anthony Starks is married to the lovely Susan J. Rimson-Starks who is a true worker in the ministry as well. Pastor and Lady Susan "Sue" Starks are proud parents of four beautiful children, Anthony II, Jonathan, Lenzi, and Rhiston. He is also currently employed with the Van Buren School District in Michigan.
While attending classes at Grambling State University, he met Superintendent Thomas Kennedy. Unbeknownst to Pastor Starks, Superintendent Kennedy was a man who would change his life forever. He taught Brother Tony (as he is affectionately known) how to live a holy and sanctified life. Many others have also invested time to instruct and mentor our Pastor, including, Dr. Jerry L. Maynard, Bishop Walter E. Bogan, Marvin L. Winans and his own father Supt. C. James Starks.
Anthony Starks was appointed as the celebrated Pastor of God's Holy Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in November 2002 by Bishop John H. Sheard. The church began to flourish under his leadership and direction. In the years following, the defining moment came in 2006. Pastor Starks and the growing congregation of God’s Holy Tabernacle had many obstacles that weighed heavily on our Pastor’s heart. However, Pastor Starks did not give up or give in. He held onto his faith by believing that God rewarded those that diligently sought him. Our Pastor began to fast and pray with the belief and the purpose that God would get the glory for these trials and tribulations that he would yet along with our congregation, overcome.
January 2008, by God’s grace and mercy, we were blessed with the burden of these obstacles being lifted. In October 2008, Pastor Starks traveled to Rwanda, Africa for mission work to bless, enrich and to spread the gospel. It was at this time when he asked God to clarify the vision God had for him and the ministry he was assigned to lead. While returning to the United States, the Lord spoke to Pastor Starks and said “my people are to “ Live InFull Expentancy” … and from there we were to become LIFE Church. Pastor explained it like this, "Whenever God does something significant in a place or in someone's life he changed their name." This was the very statement that made Pastor Starks set a new vision and direction for our church. Through the ministry of Pastor Starks, hundreds of souls have been saved, healed, delivered, & set free from the bondage of sin. Growth continues at Life Church as our servant leader takes us through the 21st century.
